You Tube former CEO Susan Wojcicki's son, Marco Troper, who was just 19 years old, was found dead at a UC Berkeley dormitory on February 18, 2024. The cause of his death is still unknown, but according to his grandmother, Esther Wojcicki doubts that it might have been due to a drug overdose.
"It’s unclear what type of medicine he took. We do know that it was a narcotic, she revealed to SFGate."
Marco was a math genius and also doing well academically at UC Berkeley. He was a major part of a strong community with friends.
"He was everything you could have wished for in a son and a grandson. He was bound to make a difference," she said. "It’s heartbreaking."
Esther wrote on Facebook on Thursday, describing she and Troper's family members are "devastated beyond comprehension."
She said to the source "It's very difficult to sustain tragedy, it makes you want to hide in a closet and never come out, but I think the main thing is that we need to push forward to see what we can do to help other people so there won’t be any other kids who end up like Marco."
The Berkeley student was found at 4:23 pm local time and the Berkeley Fire Department alerted the campus police that they were doing "life-saving measures" on Troper, a statement revealed by the University of California Police Department, Berkeley.
He was soon pronounced dead by the department.
