The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday imposed penalties on fast bowler Haris Rauf, following an investigation into his decision to decline joining Pakistan's Test squad for the 2023–24 tour of Australia.
After an extensive hearing process conducted by a PCB committee, which took into account the perspectives of all parties involved, Haris Rauf's central contract has been terminated, effective from December 1, 2023. Additionally, no No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be granted for his participation in any foreign league until June 30, 2024.
The PCB management afforded Haris Rauf an opportunity for a personal hearing on January 30, 2024, in accordance with the principles of natural justice. His response during the hearing was deemed unsatisfactory.
The PCB emphasised that representing Pakistan is the highest honour and privilege for any athlete. "Refusing to be a part of Pakistan's Test squad without providing a medical report or a justifiable reason is considered a significant violation of the central contract".
