Min Yoongi aka Suga, the renowned songwriter and rapper of the globally beloved K-pop group BTS, is set to embark on his mandatory military service on September 22.
Unlike the standard 18-month service period, Suga will be dedicating 21 months as a social worker, a decision that has touched the hearts of his devoted fans.
Prior to his enlistment, the artist took to Weverse to reassure his fans, also known as ARMYs.
Big Hit Entertainment, the agency representing BTS, confirmed this significant moment in a statement over the weekend, expressing their gratitude for the continuous support of the band's global fanbase.
The statement provided key details about Suga's enlistment.
Big Hit Music announced, "Suga will commence his required military service on September 22. There will be no official events scheduled for the day he begins his service or the day he enters the training camp." This statement prepared fans for the absence of official engagements involving the beloved artist during this period.
During a heartfelt live session, Suga expressed his satisfaction with the success of his recent solo tour.
He disclosed that he purposefully delayed his enlistment by a few days to ensure that fellow BTS member Taehyung's album promotions wouldn't be adversely affected.
To the surprise and delight of fans, Jin and J-hope, who are presently serving in the military, made an unexpected appearance on his livestream.
The decision for BTS members to proceed with their enlistment was confirmed by Big Hit Music in October 2022. In December of the same year, Jin, the eldest member, began his military service, followed by J-hope in April.
The next anticipated enlistment will likely be that of Kim Namjoon, the group's leader, followed by the maknae line – including Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
