The Department of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics in Punjab has introduced a groundbreaking digital solution, the “Excise at Your Doorstep” service, which aims to address public concerns related to vehicle registration and ownership changes.
The Chief Secretary of Punjab, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, inaugurated the "Dahleez App" and "E-Registration Card," marking a significant step toward digitization within the department.
The newly introduced service allows Excise Department officials to facilitate vehicle registration and ownership transfers directly at individuals' homes. Chief Secretary Zaman emphasized the importance of leveraging technology for enhanced governance and service delivery. He commended the Excise Department for its efforts in digitization, considering it a crucial step forward.
The “Dahleez App” and “e-Registration Card” initiative received praise for its role in solving longstanding issues within the department. The virtual registration card, accessible through the department's website or application, alleviates concerns for vehicle owners who face fines from traffic police for the absence of physical registration cards.
DG Excise highlighted that the "Excise at Your Doorstep" service has been initially launched in Lahore, with plans to expand its scope across the entire province. Officials will visit homes to provide vehicle registration and transfer services, with online banking facilitating fee payments. The e-registration card, hailed as Pakistan's first e-title document, streamlines the process for vehicle owners and replaces the outdated motor registration system, marking a significant reform.
The Excise Department's move offers a digital solution to address the persistent issue of fines faced by vehicle owners and aligns with the broader trend of digitization within government services. Vehicle owners can easily download the virtual smart cards, containing essential details such as registration numbers, owner information, and vehicle details, from the official website.
This initiative builds upon earlier digital measures, including online issuance of learner's permits, digital renewal of driving licenses, and online vehicle registration and verification, demonstrating the commitment to enhancing public services and legal compliance.
