Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar-led caretaker government on Monday night slashed the price of petrol by Rs8 per litre and maintained high-speed diesel for the next fortnight.
The finance ministry in a notification stated that reduction in the prices of petroleum products will be applied from 12 o'clock tonight.
It added that the decision regarding the revised petroleum prices was given the green light by the caretaker prime minister, signifying the government’s commitment to mitigating financial burdens on the public, especially during a sensitive interim period.
Following the significant drop, the new price of petrol is Rs259.34 per litre and Rs276.21 per litre for HSD, it added.
Two weeks ago, the government has decided to keep the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel unchanged at Rs267.34 and Rs276.21, respectively.
However, it has reportedly slashed the price of kerosene oil by Rs2.19.
In a notification, the Finance Division stated that “the government of Pakistan has decided to maintain the current prices of petrol and high speed diesel for the next fortnight”.
