Liverpool's title hopes have taken a hit as star defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out for several weeks due to a knee injury sustained in the FA Cup victory against Arsenal last weekend.
Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed the injury, stating that the influential right-back would need time to recover from a tear in the lateral ligament of his knee.
Alexander-Arnold, who played through the entirety of the FA Cup match, will be a significant absence for Liverpool as they compete in the League Cup, Europa League, and domestic cups. Lijnders expressed the impact of losing Alexander-Arnold, highlighting his crucial role in the team's dynamics and playmaking abilities.
The defender's absence adds to Liverpool's injury concerns, with Joel Matip, Andy Robertson, and Kostas Tsimikas already sidelined. Despite the setbacks, Lijnders remains optimistic, emphasising the squad's depth and talent to find solutions.
While Alexander-Arnold will miss key fixtures, including the League Cup semi-final and an FA Cup fourth-round clash, Liverpool received a positive note as Netherlands centre-back Virgil van Dijk is available to face Fulham after recovering from illness.
