Journalist Habib Akram filed an application in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the ban on surveying during the general elections for 2024.
Habib prayed in the petition that LHC ban has been imposed on all journalists from conducting an election survey, was actually against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s issued code of conduct for the media on October 13.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), PEMRA and others were made parties in the petition.
As per the petition, all journalists were banned from conducting election surveys and Pemra has issued a letter to implement the code of conduct for TV channels.
The action of ECP and PEMRA was a violation of Article 19A of the Constitution, he argued.
The petition prayed the court to declare the move to ban the survey invalid. And notification of PEMRA and ECP should be suspended till the final decision.
