The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday has once again given the green light to an increase in electricity prices for Karachi, approving a hike of Rs2.87 per unit.
This decision comes as part of the quarterly adjustment requested by K-Electric from January to March 2023.
This marks the second time NEPRA has raised electricity prices within the same quarterly adjustment, the first increase having been initiated at the request of the first Federation. The cumulative effect of these adjustments is expected to impact consumers in Karachi significantly.
In the previous adjustment for January-March 2023, NEPRA had already approved a hike of one rupee 25 paise in electricity prices. The consecutive approvals raise concerns among consumers about the escalating cost of electricity in the city.
K-Electric, the private entity responsible for power distribution in Karachi, sought the quarterly adjustment citing various factors contributing to the need for a price hike.
