Renowned Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade recently opened up about his near-death experience after suffering a massive heart attack in December 2023.
The actor, known for his roles in films like "Iqbal" and "Welcome To The Jungle," described the incident as a "second chance at life" in an exclusive interview with ETimes.
Talpade, who had never been hospitalized before, shared the details of his health condition and the events leading up to the cardiac arrest. He attributed his nonstop work and extensive travel for films and shows as contributing factors to his extreme fatigue in the months leading to the incident.
The actor, who had been taking precautions due to a family history of heart ailments and was already on medication for high cholesterol, revealed that the fateful day occurred during the shooting of "Welcome To The Jungle" at SRPF grounds in Mumbai.
After completing action sequences, Talpade felt breathless and experienced pain in his left hand. Initially attributing it to muscle strain, he decided to head home but realized the severity of the situation on the way.
In a dramatic turn of events, Talpade's heart stopped beating for a few minutes, leading to a cardiac arrest. His quick-thinking wife, Deepti, rushed him to the hospital, where doctors performed CPR and electrical shocks to revive him. Talpade underwent angioplasty, with two main arteries found to be significantly blocked (one 100% and the other 99%).
Reflecting on the experience, the actor expressed gratitude to his wife, doctors, and well-wishers who played a crucial role in saving his life. He admitted to being clinically dead during the incident and called it a "massive wake-up call."
Talpade, now on the road to recovery, emphasised the need for health awareness and urged people not to take their well-being for granted. He plans to take it easy for the next six weeks, spending time with family and focusing on his health before considering a return to work.
