Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Barrister Gohar Khan, on Saturday strongly condemned the reported incidents of harassment and alleged torture faced by PTI candidates and their supporters. These instances purportedly involved the prevention of their entry into the Returning Officer (RO) office during the scrutiny of nomination papers for general seats.
In a statement released by the PTI spokesperson, Barrister Gohar emphasized that the initial phase of the upcoming general elections, encompassing the scrutiny of nomination papers, is nearing conclusion. However, he expressed concern over the widespread use of state machinery targeting PTI candidates nationwide.
The statement highlighted instances where supporters and members affiliated with Tehreek-e-Insaaf candidates were reportedly subjected to overt harassment and mistreatment. Barrister Gohar asserted that such tactics represent an egregious misuse of power and a direct interference in the electoral process.
He further criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for what he described as a failure in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
The PTI chairman's condemnation underscores the party's stance against the reported incidents, highlighting the need for fair and transparent electoral proceedings devoid of undue influence or intimidation tactics.
