The inflation-hit masses are all set to get another shock, as the prices of petroleum products are expected to see a staggering rise over the weekend.
A proposal prepared to increase the prices of petrol and diesel from September 16 has come to light. A working paper has been prepared for making changes in the prices of petroleum products.
According to the working paper, the prices of petroleum products are proposed to be increased by Rs20 from September 16, sources say.
It suggests that the price of petrol would be raised by Rs20, high speed diesel Rs14 per liter, kerosene oil Rs10 and light diesel Rs9, the sources added.
It has also been proposed to increase the ex-refinery price of petrol by Rs13.5, the sources added, after which the ex-refinery price of petrol would rise from Rs228.59 to Rs242.10.
An increase of Rs13 per liter has been proposed in the ex-refinery price of diesel as well, according to sources.
In case the tariff hike is approved, the price of petrol will increase from Rs305.36 to Rs321.35, while that of high speed diesel from Rs311.84 to Rs325.50 per liter.
The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority is expected to hand over the working paper to the government by tomorrow evening.
The Ministry of Finance will issue a notification after the approval of the interim prime minister, while the government does have a right to maintain prices at their current levels.
