Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique anticipated a significant uptick in performance from his revamped team come February, following their successful qualification for the Champions League knockout round.
Having moved on from the star duo of Neymar and Lionel Messi, the French champions, under the guidance of Luis Enrique, now boast a youthful and disciplined lineup led by Kylian Mbappe. The Qatar-owned club is adopting a less star-dependent recruitment strategy.
Expressing confidence in the team's improvement, Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona and Spain coach, expected a stronger showing after the winter break, citing the team's growth in navigating through the Champions League group stage.
"I have no doubt that we will be better; all my teams have been better over time," he affirmed.
Pointing to the team's notable achievements in the Champions League, including chances created, shots on goal, and possession, Luis Enrique remains optimistic. The team recently secured a place in the last 16 after a tense draw at Dortmund.
Despite being drawn alongside challenging opponents like the Germans, Newcastle, and AC Milan, Enrique sees the tough group as an opportunity for growth rather than a hindrance. He believes it was the best scenario for their development, stating, "It made us grow."
As PSG prepares for upcoming fixtures against Lille and Metz before a three-week winter break, Luis Enrique expresses deep optimism, praising his players for their behaviour and commitment over the past few months. PSG currently leads Ligue 1, positioned four points ahead of Nice in second place and nine points clear of this weekend's opponents.
