Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou conveyed on Thursday that defender Cristian Romero's tackling technique will be closely observed for the remainder of the season.
Romero, who recently returned from a three-game suspension after a red card against Chelsea, faced renewed criticism for a challenge on Callum Wilson in Spurs' recent 4-1 victory over Newcastle.
Postecoglou emphasised that Romero will be under the spotlight, stating, "It's fair to say the spotlight will be on him for the rest of the year." He acknowledged the impact Romero has on the team's performance and stressed the need for adjustments in his playing style.
The manager noted the significance of Romero's presence on the field, expressing the team's preference for having him in the lineup. Despite Romero's absence due to suspension coinciding with injuries to other key players, Tottenham failed to secure victories in the matches he missed.
While praising the partnership of Romero and full-back Ben Davies, Postecoglou revealed plans to recruit another central defender in the upcoming transfer window. He highlighted the team's improved organisation with Romero in the lineup but acknowledged the need for depth in the defensive lineup.
Postecoglou mentioned the outstanding performance of Davies and the temporary role he plays as a centre-back, emphasising the importance of securing another player in that position to avoid vulnerabilities in the squad.
Additionally, the manager disclosed that Giovani Lo Celso would miss the upcoming fixture against Nottingham Forest due to a niggling injury sustained in training. The recent 4-1 victory over Newcastle marked Tottenham's first win in six matches, providing a positive turn following a challenging period that saw them lose four out of five games since topping the Premier League in late October.
