Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajput on Wednesday announced new government-regulated prices for mutton meat within the city limits.
The updated notification specifies that mutton will now cost Rs1,700 per kilogram, while sheep and lamb meat will cost Rs1,490 and Rs1,590 per kilogram, respectively.
Any vendors found selling mutton above these mandated prices will face strict consequences.
This development comes amid Pakistan's ongoing economic challenges, with weekly inflation reaching a concerning 41.90% year-on-year increase by November 16; as reported by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
This rise is primarily attributed to the soaring cost of gas.
The SPI (Sensitive Price Index) also witnessed a significant 9.95% jump on a week-on-week basis.
