Iconic diva Barbra Streisand, whose eagerly awaited book, My Name Is Barbra, has recently been released, is taking a well-deserved break from acting.
Despite her recent book release, Streisand confessed in a phone conversation with People magazine that she feels overwhelmed by the demands of discussing her illustrious career spanning over a decade.
The 81-year-old Streisand, known for her multifaceted talents, admitted, "[I’m] kind of overwhelmed," expressing a desire to take some time for herself. "Just the demands of having to speak about what I’ve done for over 10 years. I’m sort of sick of myself, to tell you the truth."
Despite her inclination to step back, Streisand's latest book became an immediate hit, peaking at No. 2 on The New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list and selling over 55,000 copies in the United States within its first week of publication.
Reliving her history wasn't an easy task for Streisand, who needed persuasion to talk about certain personal aspects. "I didn’t even want to talk about any relationships.
My editor said to me, ‘You cannot do this. People want to know certain things about your life that are personal.’ And I said, ‘Well, OK, I will, but I can’t talk about it in an interview past anything I put in my book,’" she confessed.
In her memoir, Streisand delves into pivotal experiences such as growing up in Brooklyn and her Broadway debut. She also reflects on famous relationships with actors like Marlon Brando, Elliott Gould (her ex-husband), and Pierre Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada.
Despite the challenges of discussing her personal journey, My Name Is Barbra quickly became a New York Times bestseller, highlighting the enduring fascination and admiration for Streisand's life and career among her dedicated followers.
