Former member of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee Shakeel Sheikh has revealed that caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar had to intervene to remove those involved in the ‘spot-fixing’ scandal, highlighting the appointment and removal of Salman Butt as consultant of PCB chief selector Wahab Raz.
Issuing a statement, the former member of the management committee, Shakeel Sheikh, said that he has not seen such a ‘bad situation’ of PCB in his association with the board for over 35 years.
Zaka Ashraf hires people on hefty salaries
He said 70 to 80 people in PCB have been hired by the PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and many of them have salaries of over one million rupees.
He said Zaka Ashraf does not have the authority to hire people.
Muhammad Hafeez salary
The former member of the management committee said that the salary of Muhammad Hafeez is ‘surprising’, it seems that there is a loot sale in the PCB and their gruesome story of corruption continued.
“Mohammad Hafeez is being paid one lakh rupees per day while he has no coaching experience or qualifications,” he said.
Caretaker PM should intervene
Shakeel Sheikh said that it was the duty of the caretaker government to make the appointment in PCB on merit without any ‘political pressure’.
He said that surprisingly media rights worth 10 to 15 billion rupees are being sold under the table.
“Zaka Ashraf is a part of the CEC of the People's Party and his name was also mentioned in the parliamentary board. The caretaker government has a mandate to appoint ‘neutral people’,” he said.
He said: “I told the caretaker prime minister that Zaka Ashraf is not a graduate, which is a mandatory condition to become the chairman according to the PCB constitution. Zaka Ashraf is wasting money by making political appointments in PCB. I appeal caretaker to intervene to fix the administrative affairs of PCB and appoint a neutral chairman PCB who understands cricket.”
Sheikh added: “I believe people involved in spot-fixing should be kept away from cricket. The caretaker PM has had to intervene in the case of Salman Butt due to public backlash.”
He demanded a full investigation into PCB's financial affairs and alleged Zaka Ashraf has been running PCB as his monarchy.
