Virat Kohli, India’s cricket sensation, has opted for a hiatus from One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 International cricket (T20), according to reports in the Indian media.
While the cricket maestro won’t be available for the T20I and ODI matches during the South Africa tour, he remains committed to participating in the Test matches, conveying his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The South Africa tour, commencing with the T20 International in Durban on December 10, promises three T20 Internationals, three ODIs, and two Test matches. Kohli’s absence from the shorter formats will be a significant shift for the Indian team.
Kohli’s remarkable performance in the recent World Cup showcased his prowess as he amassed an impressive tally of 765 runs in 11 innings, embellished with three centuries. This outstanding performance earned him the title of the tournament's best player. Notably, Kohli also surpassed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most centuries.
Taking a much-needed breather, Kohli is currently enjoying a vacation in London. His decision comes after a relentless schedule of continuous cricket over the past few months. Earlier, Kohli had last taken a break before the World Cup, opting for rest alongside captain Rohit Sharma for the first two ODIs against Australia back in September.
