Rohit Sharma’s enterprising 48-ball 53 and the bowlers’ dominance steered India to a 41-run victory in a low-scoring match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday.
SRI LANKA'S INNINGS
Chasing a 214-run target, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 172 with 51 balls remaining.
The early departure of Pathum Nissanka (6) started the slide, and it went downhill quickly thereafter. With the exception of unbeaten Dunith Wellalage (42 off 46) and Dhananjaya de Silva (41 off 66), no other batter showed any significant resistance with the bat.
Dimuth Karunaratne (2), Kusal Mendis (15), Sadeera Samarawickrama (17), Charith Asalanka (22), Dasun Shanaka (9), Maheesh Theekshana (2), Kasun Rajitha (1), and Matheesha Pathirana (0) failed to show any significant resistance with the bat.
Kuldeep Yadav (4–43) continued from where he stopped in his last outing against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Jasprit Bumrah (2-30) was absolutely brilliant with the bowl and played a vital role in dragging Sri Lanka into the doldrums. He picked up two crucial wickets to dampen the morale of the Dasun Shanaka-inspired side.
Ravindra Jadeja used his vast experience and grabbed two wickets, conceding merely 2-33.
Mohammed Siraj (1-17) and Hardik Pandya (1-14) took a scalp each.
Axar Patel (0-29) conceded 29 runs in his five overs and went on to remain wicketless.

INDIA'S INNINGS

Virat Kohli, who was at the top of his game against Pakistan, was struggling a lot and was undone by Dunith Wellalage on merely three off just 12 deliveries, who dominated against the robust Indian batting.
Youngster Dunith Wellalage achieved a remarkable feat as he secured his maiden 5-wicket haul, single-handedly dismantling a formidable Indian batting lineup. His bowling performance was nothing short of incredible! 🇱🇰😍#AsiaCup2023 #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/P4TCzb7p7y
