The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) tightened the noose around electricity thieves as well as defaulters and in a new development, Lesco has declared habitual defaulters as ‘dead defaulters’.
As per the Lesco, about Rs4 billion owed to the deed defaulters, and now tehsildars (revenue officers) were entrusted with the responsibility of recovering dues from defaulters.
Four senior Lesco officers were assigned the responsibility of supporting the tehsildars in Sheikhupura, Okara, and Kasur circles.
Earlier, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) reported that 194 customers were caught stealing electricity and FIRs were registered against all culprits, leading to the arrest of 25 suspects.
A task force was set up under the chairmanship of the Sindh home secretary, Sindh is also set to launch a massive crackdown on power theft to target high-loss commercial, agriculture, industrial and domestic connections and defaulters’.
In capital, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has expedited the drive against power theft and caught 105 metres and imposed a fine of Rs7.567 million for stealing electricity in various areas in the current month.
