Six alleged robbers were killed in an intense exchange of fire with the police in the Iqbal Town area of Lahore.
The six men broke into the house of a doctor in Iqbal Town's College Block on Saturday, while the residents called the police on its 15 helpline.
The doctor’s daughter, who was present on the upper storey of the house, is reported to have called the police. As the Crimes Investigation Agency police reached the spot, the suspects started firing, police claimed.
The residents of the house, however, all remained safe.
The police claimed it was engaged in an encounter with the alleged dacoits for at least 40 minutes. All the gunned-down robbers have been identified, it added, saying they belonged to Khanewal and Vehari and one of them also had a criminal record.
It also claimed that the suspects had conducted a recce before entering Dr Ibad's house, posing as labourers.
