In a move that has shocked and angered many, the caretaker government has implemented a staggering gas price increase of over 172 percent for non-protected domestic consumers. Effective from November 1, the new prices will place a significant burden on households already struggling to make ends meet.
The notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) outlines the substantial rise in gas prices for various consumption levels. For instance, consumers using 100 cubic meters of gas per month will now pay Rs 1000 instead of Rs 400, while those using 150 cubic meters will face a hike from Rs 600 to Rs 1200 per month.
On the other hand, the price of gas for the consumption of 200 mmbtu per month will now cost Rs 1600 instead of Rs 800, while consumers using 300 mmbtu of gas per month will now pay Rs 3000 instead of Rs 1100.
And, instead of Rs 2,000, consumers will now be charged Rs 3,500 per month for using 400 mmbtu of gas, whereas, for the consumption of more than 400 mmbtu per month, instead of Rs 3,100, Rs 4,000 will have to be paid.
This unprecedented price surge is expected to have a devastating impact on household budgets, particularly for low-income families who rely heavily on natural gas for cooking and heating.
