A radio anchor in the Philippines, popularly known as DJ Johnny Walker or Juan Jumalon, was fatally shot while conducting a live broadcast within his home-based studio.
This distressing occurrence has drawn widespread condemnation including from President Marcos Jr. Shockingly, this marks the fourth journalist killed since Marcos Jr. assumed office in June 2022, according to reports from the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines.
The heinous nature of the attack is compounded by the fact that it transpired within Jumalon's own residence, which also served as his radio station.
The unsettling sequence of events unfolded while he was live-streaming on Facebook with the assailant gaining entry into his recording booth.
Reports from local media suggest that the suspect requested permission to enter the booth to make an "important" on-air announcement.
Authorities have taken prompt action by securing CCTV footage from the area and launching investigations into the incident.
Jumalon was well-known for his broadcasts, which were regularly aired on the 94.7 Gold Mega Calamba FM Facebook page, boasting a substantial following of approximately 2,400 followers.
Following the shooting, Jumalon's wife rushed him to the hospital where medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival.
It's worth noting that there were no prior indications of threats against his life.
President Marcos Jr. has issued directives to the police for a thorough investigation aimed at swiftly bringing the culprits to justice.
