Tech mogul and Meta Platforms CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, found himself on the operating table after sustaining a knee injury during his martial arts training.
The injury, a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), has forced Zuckerberg to put his competitive MMA fight plans on hold.
Injury sidelines Zuckerberg's ambitions
Zuckerberg, who has been known for his enthusiasm for mixed martial arts, recently shared the news of his injury on social media. A photo posted on his Instagram account depicted him lying in a hospital bed with his left knee elevated, bandaged, and fitted with a brace.
In the caption, he wrote, "Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it. Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me. I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that’s delayed a bit. Still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thanks to everyone for the love and support."
While Meta, based in Menlo Park, California, has yet to provide an official statement regarding Zuckerberg's injury, it is clear that the CEO's plans for a competitive MMA fight have been temporarily put on hold. This setback comes after Zuckerberg completed his first jiu-jitsu tournament in May and frequently shared updates on his martial arts training journey.
Earlier this year, Zuckerberg and Tesla CEO Elon Musk had garnered substantial attention by seemingly agreeing to an in-person face-off.
The two tech moguls engaged in a playful online rivalry, with Musk boasting about his weightlifting training and Zuckerberg sharing updates about his martial arts endeavors.
However, their much-anticipated face-off hit a roadblock when Musk indicated in August that he might require surgery before the fight could materialize.
In response, Zuckerberg took to the Threads social media app to express his readiness to compete but noted, "If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."
