Pakistan's medium-pace bowler has achieved a milestone by securing his 100th one-day international wicket during the World Cup clash against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
This feat was accomplished when the 29-year-old dismissed New Zealand's opening batter, Devon Conway, for a score of 35 in the 11th over of the match, marking his 66th ODI appearance.
Hasan Ali joins a distinguished group of Pakistani bowlers who have reached the 100-wicket milestone in ODI cricket, making him the 22nd player from Pakistan to achieve this accomplishment. Leading this exclusive list is the legendary left-arm pacer, Wasim Akram, who boasts an impressive tally of 502 wickets from 356 matches.
Interestingly, another Pakistani fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, also reached the coveted 100-wicket mark in Pakistan's previous match against Bangladesh in Kolkata. However, in terms of the fastest ascent to 100 wickets among Pakistani seamers, Hasan Ali finds himself in good company. He follows in the footsteps of Shaheen Shah Afridi (51 matches), Saqlain Mushtaq (53 matches), Waqar Younis (59 matches), Shoaib Akhtar (60 matches), and Naved-ul-Hasan (65 matches) to achieve this remarkable feat.
Hasan Ali's selection for the match against the Black Caps came as he replaced Usama Mir in the lineup. Before the game, Hasan had shown his prowess by taking eight wickets in five matches, including a notable four-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad.
It's worth noting that Hasan Ali's inclusion in Pakistan's squad for the 2023 World Cup came as a result of Naseem Shah's shoulder injury, which he sustained during the Asia Cup Super Four match against India at the R Premadasa Stadium. Hasan Ali's impressive performance and dedication have certainly made him a valuable asset to the Pakistani cricket team.
