A former Google recruiter said LinkedIn's "Open to Work" tag is the "biggest red flag" to hiring managers because it suggests "desperation".
Nolan Church, a former Google recruiter, told CNBC that the "Open to Work" tag on LinkedIn is a bad thing for jobseekers because it makes them seem desperate to hiring managers.
He said that hiring managers want to feel like they are the only ones who can hire the applicant. They don't want to feel like the jobseeker is desperate to take any job.
Church said that the best candidates are not looking for jobs right now and that recruiters have to convince them to leave their current jobs.
Brianna Rooney, founder and CEO of recruitment firm TalentPerch, agreed with Church that telling hiring managers that you are actively looking for a job is a bad thing.
She said that it makes jobseekers seem desperate. Rooney said that applicants should not make it seem like they are too eager to get a job.
She said that jobseekers should select the option that tells recruiters you're open to work but is not public.
