Real Madrid have officially announced the extension of Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior's contract until June 30, 2027.
The club made this announcement on Tuesday, solidifying their commitment to the player.
At 23 years old, Vinicius Junior joined Real Madrid in 2018 after transferring from the Brazilian club Flamengo. During his time at the club, he has established himself as one of La Liga's standout performers, notably scoring the winning goal in last year's Champions League final against Liverpool.
The extension of his existing contract was pending as it was due to expire at the end of the current season. Reports from local media suggest that an agreement for the extension had been reached last year, with the official confirmation made on Tuesday.
While specific financial details were not disclosed by the club, Spanish media outlets have reported that the new contract includes a release clause of one billion euros ($1.06 billion), mirroring the clauses found in the contracts of several Barcelona youth players.
Vinicius Junior's accomplishments also extend beyond the football pitch, as he finished sixth in this year's Ballon d'Or voting. He received the Socrates Award, named after the Brazilian icon, in recognition of his humanitarian efforts.
