As Chelsea gear up for their League Cup fourth-round clash against Blackburn, coach Mauricio Pochettino is urging the Blues' supporters to maintain faith despite the team's rocky start to the season.
Chelsea's recent 2-0 defeat to Brentford at home disrupted their brief resurgence and drew a frustrated reaction from fans. With Championship side Blackburn set to visit Stamford Bridge, another loss would escalate pressure on Pochettino, who is calling on Chelsea's faithful to stand by the team.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Pochettino acknowledged the fans' passionate desire for victory and their subsequent frustration when results don't go their way. Nevertheless, he emphasised the importance of believing in and trusting the team, highlighting that the journey is characterised by a process.
Appointed as Chelsea's new manager in May, Pochettino's mission was to steer the club back to success following a lacklustre previous season. Despite numerous injuries, the team currently stands 11th in the Premier League, with just one home league win this season.
Pochettino acknowledged the challenges faced when trying to build something new, acknowledging the natural ebb and flow of progress. He also noted that defining success for Chelsea this season is complex, but getting back on track against Blackburn is a crucial step, especially with demanding Premier League matches against Tottenham and Manchester City on the horizon.
"The most important thing is to take it one step at a time, and our next game is vital," Pochettino said. "It's essential for us to progress and attempt to regain momentum."
