Pakistan’s security forces successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt by terrorists on the Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan, killing 54 terrorists during a large-scale operation in the Hassan Khel area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to ISPR, the terrorists were attempting to infiltrate Pakistani territory with the intent to carry out terrorist activities. Security forces launched a decisive response that prevented a potential disaster.
A significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the slain militants during the operation, ISPR added.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, while addressing a news conference, termed it a "big day" for Pakistan’s security forces.
"Today is the most important day for our security forces. On the night of 26th and 27th, intelligence was received about the entry of a group of terrorists from North Waziristan into Hassan Khel," Naqvi revealed.
He said the infiltrators were closely monitored, and allowed to enter. Once they advanced into a strategic zone, Pakistani soldiers attacked from three sides, eliminating 54 terrorists in a well-coordinated operation, he added.
The minister emphasized that there had been prior intelligence about the presence of the militants’ handlers inside Pakistan, which led to heightened vigilance along the Pak-Afghan border.
"Based on secret information, strict measures were taken at the border, and our forces successfully neutralised the threat," Naqvi said.
He further said that another IED was seized, bringing the total number recovered to eight, adding that every step taken by India was being exposed.
"They also attempted to infiltrate Pakistan by sending terrorists. All the bodies of the terrorists are present, serving as undeniable proof of terrorism. This incident has made it clear that Pakistan continues to face serious threats," Naqvi stressed.
The minister claimed that attempts were being made to derail the achievements Pakistan had made against terrorism. "The terrorists have been on the back foot for some time now, but they may attempt to infiltrate again. Whenever they do, we will catch and eliminate them once more. We will foil all conspiracies against Pakistan," he declared.
Naqvi said that the army and other security forces were monitoring every second vigilantly, and if any incident occurred, India would know the strength of Pakistan’s response. "A large quantity of weapons has been recovered from the slain terrorists. There will be no forgiveness for those conspiring against Pakistan. We are sharing all evidence and developments with the world," he stated.
He also claimed that Pakistan had clear evidence of how the killed terrorists were sent into the country. "India will receive a fitting response for any aggression it attempts," he insisted.
Regarding the Pahalgam attack, "we are preparing for a transparent inquiry — but we do not trust India to act impartially. No matter how many attempts are made, they will continue to fail", he stated, adding that the high number of terrorists killed was a significant success for Pakistan.
The ISPR further assured that security forces remain vigilant and are fully capable of responding to any attempts to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
