Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh humorously addressed the mix-up regarding his cap number at the Cricket World Cup, revealing, "Everyone calls me Shaun" after consistently receiving his brother's number on his cap.
With a chuckle, the 32-year-old Mitchell shared, "I've asked a couple of times to get my number on my cap, and they keep sending me Shaun's number. So, everyone here calls me Shaun anyway, so it works out well."
Notably, Mitchell's left-handed brother Shaun, aged 40, bid farewell to first-class and ODI cricket in March after an illustrious eight-year international career that encompassed 38 Tests and 73 ODIs. While Shaun's ODI cap number was 165, Mitchell should rightly sport 190 on his cap, signifying him as the 190th Australian to don the national team's colours.
Mitchell has been in exceptional form at the World Cup and is heading into the match against the Netherlands in New Delhi after a stellar performance, making 121 runs in a record-breaking 259-run opening partnership with David Warner against Pakistan.
Discussing the cricketing lineage in the Marsh family, Mitchell playfully remarked, "Yeah, that partnership between Geoff and Boon would have taken four days to get that many."
His father, Geoff Marsh, was also an opener and shared numerous marathon partnerships with David Boon during his cricketing career.
