After a long break from Hollywood headlines and major studio films, Johnny Depp is finally stepping back into the spotlight.
The 61-year-old actor is set to star in Day Drinker, an atmospheric thriller directed by Marc Webb, best known for 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man.

The film, currently being shot in Spain, brings Depp into the mysterious world of a luxury yacht, where secrets, danger, and high society collide. Depp plays a cryptic guest whose presence disrupts the life of a young bartender, portrayed by Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline. The story takes a darker turn when Penélope Cruz enters the scene as a powerful crime boss with ties to both main characters.
This marks yet another collaboration between Cruz and Depp, who previously starred together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express. Adding even more star power are Spanish actors Manu Ríos and Aron Piper, creating a truly international ensemble.
Backed by producers of John Wick and Free Guy, Day Drinker is shaping up to be a gripping thriller with noir tones and layered suspense. Director Marc Webb has described the film as “ferocious,” promising an intense and visually rich cinematic experience.
For Depp, this marks a return to mainstream Hollywood after years of working on European films like Jeanne du Barry and directing Modi. As the actor once said, “I didn’t go anywhere. Maybe people stopped calling.” With Day Drinker, it’s clear the calls are back—and louder than ever.
