Veteran England pacer David Willey on Wednesday praised the Pakistan Super League (PSL) calling it the best cricket league in the world, as he gears up to represent Multan Sultans in the 10th edition of the tournament, beginning on Friday.
Speaking to media personnel at the National Stadium Karachi ahead of a practice session, the 35-year-old left-arm seamer expressed his enthusiasm for playing in the PSL once again, stating that the quality of cricket and competitive nature of the tournament makes it stand out among global franchise leagues.
“PSL and IPL are happening at the same time, but I feel more excited about playing in the Pakistan League,” Willey remarked.
Willey, who was part of England’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2022, said he was looking forward to putting in his best performance and helping his team go the distance in the tournament.
“I’m hopeful the 10th season will bring thrilling contests. I’ll try to play good cricket and contribute as much as I can for the team,” he said.
Willey has joined the Multan Sultans squad as one of their key overseas players. His experience and all-round capabilities are expected to play a significant role in the team’s campaign, as the Sultans aim to reclaim the PSL title they last won in 2021.
With the opening match of PSL X set to take place on April 11, teams have begun intensive preparations in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi — the four cities selected to host matches during the 37-day tournament.
The final is scheduled to be held at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on May 18.
