A local court in Rawalpindi has announced a major verdict in a blasphemy case, sentencing five convicts to death, life imprisonment, and a total of 80 years in prison. The court has also imposed a total fine of Rs6.5 million on the convicts.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Ayub delivered the verdict, stating that the crime was heinous and did not warrant any leniency. The case was registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crimes Wing, which had investigated the charges against the accused.
According to the verdict, all five convicts have been sentenced to death by hanging, life imprisonment and additional rigorous jail terms. The court emphasized that such offences carry severe consequences under the law.
The courtroom was packed with a large number of lawyers and citizens, and security was exceptionally tight during the announcement of the verdict. Following the ruling, all five convicts were immediately transferred to Adiala Jail under heavy security.
