United States President Donald Trump has characterised his recent phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine as “very good,” following a roughly one-hour conversation.
According to foreign media reports, the call, which focused on aligning the “requests and needs” of both Russia and Ukraine, was pivotal in discussions surrounding a potential cease-fire.
The dialogue came just a day after Russian President Vladimir V. Putin agreed to temporarily cease strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, provided Kyiv reciprocated.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump described the call as lasting around one hour. "Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs," Trump stated.
“We are very much on track,” he added, reinforcing the alignment between the two nations’ positions.
Trump also mentioned that he had asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz to “give an accurate description of the points discussed.”
He indicated that a further statement would be issued “shortly.”
