Famed composer AR Rahman was admitted to a private hospital on Greams Road in Chennai early Sunday morning after experiencing chest pain, sources confirmed.
The Oscar-winning musician, 57, was rushed to the hospital around 7:30 am, where a series of medical tests, including an ECG and echocardiogram, were conducted to assess his condition.
Sources close to the hospital indicated that he may undergo an angiogram, though no official statement has been issued regarding his health status. A team of specialists is attending to him.
Rahman, a globally celebrated composer known for his contributions to Indian and international cinema, last made headlines in November 2024, when he and his former partner Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. Banu had cited health concerns as a key factor in their decision, while assuring continued support for him. The couple has three children: Raheema, Khatija, and Ameen.
On the professional front, Rahman has been active with multiple projects across various languages. This year, he composed for the Tamil film Kadhalikka Neramillai and the upcoming Chhaava.
His much-anticipated collaboration with Mani Ratnam, titled Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, is slated for a June 10 release. Additionally, he is working on several high-profile films, including Lahore 1947, Tere Ishq Mein, Ramayana series, Ram Charan’s RC 16, and Gandhi Talks.
