Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday paid tribute to the professionalism, courage, and sacrifices of the Pakistan Armed Forces on the 6th anniversary of Operation Swift Retort, reiterating the country’s unwavering resolve to defend its sovereignty.
In a statement marking the occasion, the premier recalled the events of February 27, 2019, when the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) delivered a decisive response to Indian aggression, demonstrating the nation’s military preparedness.
“Six years ago today, the Pakistan Air Force sent a clear message to the enemy that Pakistan is fully capable of safeguarding its borders,” he said.
The Prime Minister lauded the armed forces for their steadfast commitment to national security, saying their swift and resolute action in 2019 reaffirmed Pakistan’s ability to counter any threats to its sovereignty.
“Our armed forces have time and again proven their readiness to defend the motherland. Their sacrifices for the country’s security will always be remembered,” he stated.
He further emphasised Pakistan’s continuous efforts to promote regional peace, asserting that any attempts to undermine national security would be met with a unified response from the entire nation.
“Pakistan has always sought peace in the region, but whenever its stability has been challenged, the nation has stood as a leaden wall,” he remarked.
Operation Swift Retort, launched on February 27, 2019, was Pakistan’s response to India’s incursion following the Pulwama attack. The PAF successfully downed an Indian fighter jet and captured its pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, before later releasing him as a goodwill gesture.
The operation reinforced Pakistan’s military capability and reaffirmed its stance on national security.
