The consumers of Karachi Electric (K-Electric) could be in for some more bad news, as the authorities have prepared to for a second price hike in a single quarterly adjustment.
The K-Electric has submitted a request to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a further increase of Rs3.02 per unit on electricity consumers.
K-Electric has sought the hike in the form of quarterly adjustments for April to June 2023.
Nepra concluded the hearing on the company's request.
Further working will take place once the K-Electric gives its stance to the authority, Nepra officials said.
The consumers of the city lashed out at the frequent increase in power tariff, saying their business have been adversely impacted.
The Nepra Authority completed the hearing after hearing the consumers. It said a decision would be taken after analysing the data.
On a previous request of the government, there has already been an increase of Rs3.28 for Karachi in the quarter of April to June this year.

After the hearing, Nepra will send its decision to the federal government. After the approval of the federal government, the increase will be applicable to K-Electric consumers.
Earlier on Oct 15, the K-Electric had submitted an application with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an increase of Rs2.35 per unit in terms of quarterly adjustments.
According to the application, another increase of 67 paisas per unit should be made in terms of arrears.
On approval of the request, the electricity consumers of Karachi would bear an additional financial burden of Rs1.6 billion.
