Alpine Racing, a Formula One team backed by parent company Renault, has secured a significant 200 million euro ($211 million) investment from a star-studded group of sporting icons.
Among the notable investors are quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Rory McIlroy, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, along with Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce, former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, and ex-Manchester United footballer Juan Mata.
This impressive assembly is spearheaded by investment firm Otro Capital.
The initial consortium that acquired a 24 percent stake in Alpine in June also featured Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and Michael B. Jordan.
In a statement, four-time major golf champion Rory McIlroy shared his excitement about the new venture, saying, "Passion for excellence on the golf course has led me to admire the same pursuit in Formula 1. Partnering with Otro Capital in Alpine F1 is an exhilarating venture that unites my love for sports, competition, and the relentless drive to be the best."
Currently, Alpine is positioned in sixth place in the F1 constructors' championship, with five races left in the 2023 season. Alec Scheiner of Otro Capital expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "These are best-in-class investors, athletes, entertainers, and entrepreneurs, and they are all committed to elevating the Alpine F1 team."
