Pakistan national cricket team selector Asad Shafiq stated on Friday that captains benefited from the presence of seasoned players in high-pressure International Cricket Council (ICC) events.
In a video issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Shafique said: "The experience played a crucial role in such tournaments."
Shafiq confirmed that Fakhar Zaman had encountered health issues but had now regained full fitness. "Fakhar is fit, and the selection committee will finalise the opening pair based on conditions," he stated.
Speaking on young talent, Shafiq assured that Saim Ayub would return to the national squad once he recovered from injury. "Whenever Saim is fit, he will make a comeback," he affirmed.
The national selector also praised Saud Shakeel’s consistent performances in Test and List A cricket. "Saud has delivered outstanding performances in both formats," he noted, adding that Shakeel possessed the versatility to play both as an opener and in the middle order.
Shafiq expressed satisfaction over Pakistan hosting an ICC event, terming it a positive development for the country’s cricketing landscape.
