Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon stated on Friday that the provincial government had introduced Pakistan’s first electric vehicle (EV) bus service, while Punjab had recently placed an order for 35 EV buses.
Addressing the Sindh Assembly, Memon asserted that Sindh had taken the lead in sustainable public transport and had initiated the service two years ago.
Memon announced further expansion in the province’s EV transport system. “We are purchasing additional EV buses for Karachi,” he said.
He also informed the assembly that the government had planned to introduce electric taxis. “We are set to launch EV taxis soon,” Memon added.
“We are launching Pakistan’s first EV pink scooters,” he said.
Memon said: "These electric scooters would be provided free of charge to the city’s women."
