The Azerbaijani government conveyed on Thursday its interest in investing in Pakistan's development projects, particularly in the communications sector.
According to details, Privatisation Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, led a high-level delegation to Azerbaijan, aiming to bolster bilateral cooperation.
During this visit, Aleem Khan met with Azerbaijan's Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, to discuss potential collaborations in infrastructure and transportation sectors.
Aleem Khan extended an invitation to Azerbaijan to invest in the M6 and M9 motorways, highlighting their strategic importance in enhancing regional connectivity.
He proposed that a delegation from Azerbaijan visit Pakistan in February to assess the feasibility of the Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Karachi motorways.
Both countries deliberated on exploring business-to-business (B2B) and government-to-government (G2G) partnerships for highway construction.
Aleem Khan also discussed establishing a road network from Pakistan to Central Asia, emphasising the necessity of improving and accelerating transportation channels to enhance logistics.
He stated, "Improving and accelerating transportation channels is essential for enhancing logistics."
Minister Nabiyev assured Aleem Khan of Azerbaijan's full support for Pakistan, expressing a desire for significant progress in the communications sector. He affirmed, "Azerbaijan is keen to make significant progress in the communications sector with Pakistan."
The meeting also included discussions on potential investments through public-private partnerships, with both countries considering collaborative opportunities.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman provided a briefing on the M6 and M9 motorway projects, outlining their potential benefits and current status.
Azerbaijani officials expressed interest in partnering with Pakistan in serial road and other communication projects, indicating a mutual desire to strengthen ties in these areas. Minister Khan is also expected to meet with other Azerbaijani ministers in Baku to further explore avenues of cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Coordinator of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ahmad, and Federal Secretary for Petroleum, Momin Ali Agha, who contributed to the discussions on enhancing bilateral relations and investment opportunities.
