The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Tuesday its decision to challenge the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Act in court.
Addressing the media outside Parliament House, Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz criticised the manner in which the law was passed. "The PECA Act was approved hurriedly in parliament," said Faraz.
"Parliament had lost its reputation, and the parliamentarians had no importance anymore," said Faraz.
Faraz expressed concern over the opposition's treatment, stating, "The opposition leader was not allowed to speak in parliament. The opposition was ignored completely, which is a matter of concern."
PTI leader Ali Zafar also condemned the process, asserting that the law targeted journalists and whistle-blowers. "The law was passed forcefully in parliament without addressing our [PTI] reservations," said Zafar.
He added, "The bill targeted journalists and all those who sought to expose the truth. We will challenge the PECA Act in court.
