The first FC NA Gilgit Baltistan Football Championship commenced on January 23, 2025, under the supervision of the Pakistan Army, marking a significant milestone in regional sports development.
The colorful inaugural ceremony took place at Lalak Jan Stadium in Gilgit, with Major General Imtiaz Gilani, Commander FC NA, as the chief guest. The event was attended by the Chief Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan and a large number of local residents.
The tournament features 15 football teams, including 11 representing different districts and 4 representing various departments. Teams have been divided into four pools through a draw, competing in a championship league format.
This championship provides an opportunity for Gilgit Baltistan's youth to showcase their football skills and contribute to sports development in the region. Local football enthusiasts highlighted that while football has been a popular sport, it was often overlooked in previous years.
Participants expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Army for enabling the tournament, which offers a healthy recreational activity for the community.
