Despite it being a scheduled meeting day, no party leader, family member, lawyer, or member of the negotiation committee visited Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Thursday.
This marked the first time in a year and a half that the former prime minister spent an entire meeting day in isolation.
Tuesday and Thursday are designated meeting days under the jail manual, offering a routine opportunity for interactions. However, sources confirmed that no visitor contacted the jail authorities or submitted a list of names as required for entry.
After the meeting time ended, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry revealed that he had reached out to jail officials on Wednesday on instructions from negotiation committee head Omer Ayub. “Despite waiting the entire day, no response was received, and the committee meeting could not take place,” Faisal stated.
However, jail authorities claimed that no PTI leader contacted the jail administration for any meeting for the last two days. They clarified that visits are held according to the prescribed schedule.
"For two days, no request or list of visitors was submitted, nor did anyone come to meet the PTI founder," a prison official noted, adding that there will be another meeting during the hearing of the Toshakhana 2 case tomorrow. Jail sources say that the PTI leadership sends names of visitors to the jail authorities, however, none were submitted since Wednesday morning.
"The meeting of the negotiation committee is not the domain of the prison authorities," the sources clarified.
In past instances, PTI leaders and lawyers frequently arrived at the jail even without prior permission. However, this time, no effort was made by any party representative to reach Adiala Jail.
Meanwhile, sources indicated that another opportunity for a meeting could arise during the PTI founder’s court appearance in the Tosha Khana II case tomorrow. For now, the day ended with the PTI founder remaining alone in isolation.
