Concept Loop, a Pakistan-based startup, emerged as the first-prize winner at the prestigious Green Tech Hub competition at COP 29, capturing global attention for its ingenious approach to tackling plastic waste.
Held in Baku in November, COP29 is where world leaders and climate innovators converged to initiate a quiet but powerful revolution in sustainability.
The prestigious event was duly attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif who was accompanied with a high level delegation which also met Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines.
Pakistani startups, including Concept Loop showcased their talent and gained global recognition for their innovation.
The force behind Concept Loop is Syed Ali Naqi, a visionary entrepreneur with an unyielding commitment to solving one of humanity’s most pressing challenges.
Under his leadership, Concept Loop has turned the problem of plastic waste into a solution that redefines sustainability and innovation.
Naqi’s brainchild, EcoGrete™️, is not just another building material. It’s a beacon of hope for a world drowning in waste. By transforming low-value plastics destined for oceans and landfills into aggregate that seamlessly integrates into concrete products like pavers, tiles, and blocks, Concept Loop is reshaping the future of construction while reducing carbon emissions.
As Pakistan remains one of the most climate vulnerable nations in the world, Concept Loop’s solutions provide the country with the means to use innovation to tackle this crisis.
But Concept Loop isn’t just about innovation; it’s about impact, according to Naqi. In 2024, the company offset over 700,000 kilograms of plastic waste, a figure that translates to an astonishing 532 million wrappers, each with no other potential for reuse.
This waste has been redirected into products that are low-carbon, durable, and market-accepted, proving that sustainability can be as practical as it is noble.
The startup shows how Pakistani innovations are globally competitive and that the nation is slowly but surely getting equipped to deal with the climate crisis.
Concept Loop’s story is one of resilience and ambition. From humble beginnings to global recognition, the company has become a leader in the circular economy, partnering with industry giants like Shell, Nestle, and PepsiCo. Its solutions have helped companies slash their carbon loads by up to 84%, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and economic viability can go hand in hand.
At COP29, the judges praised Naqi’s vision for its scalability and ingenuity. Yet for Naqi, the win is only a milestone. “This is not just about awards,” he said. “It’s about proving that impactful change is possible when we challenge the status quo and dare to innovate.”
Concept Loop’s journey is a testament to what can happen when bold ideas meet determined leadership. With its sights set on expanding its reach and impact, the company stands as a symbol of hope for a world in desperate need of sustainable solutions.
As the climate crisis intensifies, Syed Ali Naqi and Concept Loop are proving that even the most daunting challenges can be met with creativity, resolve, and a vision for a better tomorrow.
