Liverpool's Premier League clash with Manchester United at Anfield proceeded as scheduled on Sunday despite heavy snowfall in England's north-west, which caused travel disruptions.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool aimed to extend their lead at the top of the table by eight points with a victory over a struggling Manchester United, who entered the match after losing their last four games in all competitions.
The decision to go ahead with the fixture followed two safety meetings between the clubs and local authorities. The match, scheduled to kick off at 1630GMT, received the green light.
Liverpool confirmed the decision in a statement, saying, "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned."
The club added that two safety meetings assessed the weather and travel conditions. It thanked all parties involved in ensuring the match could proceed and urged fans travelling to Anfield to take extra care.
Heavy snowfall overnight led to the closure of Liverpool and Manchester airports. Rail services were also disrupted, with trains to and from Liverpool’s Lime Street station cancelled until midday.
