Men continue to lead in Pakistan’s digital and online financial sector, but women are quickly gaining ground in social media usage and online banking, according to a report by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Over the past four years, male broadband users grew by 21%, increasing their share from 79% to nearly 100%. In contrast, the share of female users increased by 12%, from 21% to 33%.
Male users of branchless banking grew by 26%, raising their share from 55% to 81%. Women saw a smaller but significant increase of 17% in this category.
