Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad Friday and made it clear that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and good relations with Afghanistan could not properly side by side as the Kabul regime would have to take action against TTP.
PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to combating terrorism, emphasizing the country's right to fully defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Addressing the ongoing threat posed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Prime Minister stated, "Better relations and open leniency towards the banned TTP cannot coexist."
He urged Afghanistan to take decisive action against the TTP, which he asserted operates from Afghan territory.
“Afghanistan is a brotherly country, and we desire good relations, but innocent people are being martyred in Pakistan. This policy cannot continue,” he added.
Prime Minister also acknowledged efforts to provide medical aid and treatment to those affected by recent violence in Parachinar. Medicines were delivered via helicopter through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and injured individuals were transferred to Islamabad for specialized care.
In a separate statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid glowing tributes to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her 17th death anniversary. He praised her bravery and contributions to democracy, stating, “Martyr Benazir Bhutto was a courageous woman whose services for democracy are exemplary.” He recalled the historic signing of the Charter of Democracy between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, underscoring her role as a beacon of hope for Pakistan's democratic journey.
The Prime Minister concluded by praying for the elevated ranks of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, calling her legacy a guiding light for the nation.
