The administration of Adiala Jail has rejected claims made by the Jail Reforms Committee, clarifying that no obstruction was placed on the committee’s efforts to meet any prisoner.
In a statement, the jail administration explained that when the Jail Reforms Committee requested to meet PTI founder Imran Khan, he was present in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court, and the administration had no control over court proceedings.
Previously, Jail Reforms Committee member Khadija Shah had written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Yahya Afridi, highlighting the refusal of the Adiala Jail administration to grant access to Imran Khan’s barracks.
Shah requested the Chief Justice to issue orders allowing the Jail Reforms Committee to visit and meet the former prime minister, emphasizing that the committee cannot provide its opinion to the Supreme Court without hearing Khan’s perspective.
The committee has urged the Supreme Court to facilitate their visit to Adiala Jail for a thorough assessment of the situation.
