Adviser to Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Wednesday that the establishment has never stopped from dialogue.
Speaking on Samaa TV programme "Nadeem Malik Live", he said that meetings had taken place in the Speaker’s office in the past and should be pursued further.
He said: "Efforts to initiate talks were made yesterday and highlighted plans to take them forward."
Sanaullah expressed hope that discussions would lead to a logical conclusion.
He cited the DG ISPR’s statement that talks were not within their mandate and that political parties should resolve issues amongst themselves.
Referring to the 26th amendment, he remarked that all discussions occurred in the presence of the establishment, with foreign pressures occasionally intervening, including demands for bases and matters concerning Dr Shakil Afridi.
He stressed that decisions should not be made on the streets and that political leadership should realise this to avoid external pressures.
Sanaullah asserted that the trend of filing cases against opponents would end only through mutual consensus.
He called for a charter of democracy and a charter of economy to be agreed upon by political parties, specifying permissible and impermissible actions.

Sanaullah added that preconditions for negotiations could not be accepted, and all matters should be resolved at the negotiation table.
He confirmed that allied parties would have one representative each in the talks, revealing that negotiations occurred even on the nights of 25 and 26 November.
As a result of these talks, some individuals facilitated meetings in jail with PTI’s founder. He mentioned that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Barrister Saif met the PTI’s founder three to four times.
Discussing the 26 November protests, he said: "The PTI was advised to avoid D-Chowk and instead gather at Sangjani, which the party had refused."
"The decision to proceed to D-Chowk was solely made by PTI’s founder," said Sanaullah.
He highlighted the significant role Speaker Ayaz Sadiq would play in negotiations. A meeting to finalise committee members was planned after the Prime Minister’s return from Egypt on Friday.
Speaking about PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Sanaullah said: "Nawaz Sharif would approve talks on behalf of PML-N, while PTI’s founder would decide for their side."
He said: "Nawaz Sharif is on board with negotiations with PTI."
