Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed on Friday for a further reduction in electricity prices for the public. He also emphasised accelerating the implementation of future power generation projects.
During a review meeting on power generation and transmission projects, the prime minister ordered the immediate closure of outdated power plants that produce limited electricity with excessive fuel consumption.
He stated, "In the future, priority should be given to low-cost power projects and local resources." The meeting also reviewed the progress of ongoing hydropower projects across the country.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that globally, electricity is being generated using environmentally friendly, low-cost solar energy. He added, "Hydropower will provide consumers with both environmentally friendly and affordable electricity."
The premier further mentioned, "Pakistan is fortunate to have vast potential for solar energy and the current power capacity should be shifted to solar energy."
Separately, few days back, PM Shehbaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif resolved to take strict action against the miscreants.

According to details, PM Shehbaz held a meeting with Nawaz at Jati Umra. On this occasion, both the leaders discussed the matters pertaining to the national security and political affairs. The premier and Nawaz agreed to hold accountable those who harm national solidarity and vowed to prevent obstacles in the country’s development.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the events that transpired on November 26 and deliberated on a possible call for civil disobedience.
They also reached a consensus on consulting government allies and taking them into confidence regarding national matters.
Nawaz congratulated the prime minister on the improvement in the country's economic situation, while PM Shehbaz briefed him on progress in attracting foreign investment.
The prime minister also presented a report on his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and highlighted developments in securing investments from abroad.
The meeting included an exchange of views on the overall political and economic situation of the country.
Both leaders paid tribute to the soldiers and other martyrs who sacrificed their lives during operations against militants.
Concluding the meeting, they offered prayers at the graves of their parents in Jati Umra.
